Prairie Braid
Foundation-by-the-Yard
with Holice Turnbow
Saturday, September 13, 9 a.m. – 12:00 Noon

From This

to This

Charlton Sewing Center wants to show you how to strip – strip “piece” that is. This monthly activity will be kicked off with Holice Turnbow teaching strip piecing on a foundation. Goodbye tricky bias edges and fussy point matching! Benartex presents Foundation-by-the-Yard, designed to make your quilting more precise, less stressful, and as creatively different as you are! Sharon Hultgren, quilt author, designer, teacher, and creator of the Easy Angle ruler, has designed these innovative fabric foundations to make you totally rethink the way you piece!

Each panel includes foundation patterns, instructions for piecing, and fabric requirements. No purchasing additional books or patterns! And the fabric foundation stays in place after you're done piecing, keeping your blocks stable and square. No ripping off tiny pieces of paper or snapping your stitches! $35.00 includes the foundation panel. Kits available upon request at time of registration (approximately 1˝ yds. total).

Cathy is setting up a teaching station so you can try out the following needles: Wing, Double Wing, Drilling, Spring, and Double Eye. Stop in anytime the week of August 4-9, and plan to stay for 1/2 hour so you can sew with each of these needles and see their beautiful creative capabilities. We will provide machine, needles, thread and fabric. This is a perfect opportunity to try before you buy.

Needle Punch

This two hour workshop will introduce you to the wonderfully relaxing art of wool needle punch – a technique of attaching various fibers (we will be using wool and silk) to a “canvas” (again, we will be using wool) to create interesting texture or an actual picture.

Mary LaBoube will show you how to create a tree in wool using this fun technique. Your “kit” will consist of an already needle punched tree trunk on a square of wool, the necessary needle and a collection of roving fibers for you to pull from. Choose a season, choose a tree trunk, and Mary will guide you through adding foliage. You will leave with a finished piece ready for framing.

Check back for November date!
